The growing of conventional cotton causes a huge impact on the wellbeing of humans in cotton growing areas. It is a very chemically intensive process, and therefore effects the earths soil, air and water.

 

 

What does organic cotton then mean?

The Organic Cotton growing processs has low impact on the environment, there are NO chemicals/ pesticides used and no use of GMO seeds. This farming process is also not harmful for humans, living in the surrounding areas. How to know if a product is Organic Cotton?

Good question!

You will be able to identify, a certified organic cotton (GOTS) products through their label. It will have the GOTS icon on it.

What does Declare Clothing’s use of Organic Cotton look like?

We searched high and low to find local suppliers who are also focused on sustainability, and have a long term view on fashion. We were delighted to find material suppliers in South Africa.

They import their Organic Cotton and combine it with Hemp, to make excellent quality & long lasting materials. Their materials consists of 45% Organic Cotton and 55% Hemp. The best part is that they have GOTS certification for their organic cotton materials!
